The Rio Grand Valley Woodcarvers was organized in 1984 by five carvers. Today the membership stands at just over 300 The gurus of the group are Erwin and Dorothy Caldwell, David Bullwinkle, Carl Heine, Hilding (Swede) Josephson
The Club is a nonprofit, self-sustaining organization and is affiliated with the National Wood Carvers Association (NWCA). The NWCA has members world wide and publishes and excellent magazine CHIP CHATS
Our Mission:
To provide information about supplies, wood tools, books etc.
To provide help in carving and finishing, tool sharpening, blank preparation
To hold clinics on carving, sharpening, finishing work
To provide opportunities for fellowship
To provide an opportunity to exhibit your work
Have fun!
So what have we done for the community? Well, in 1998 we provided instructions at several local schools to help them view and understand the art of woodcarving, We show our carvings, and demonstrate at the Hidalgo Border Festa also demonstrate at local Museums, and many Community events. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds up -- especially if everyone pitches in!
