Club News
The Club is selling equipment that has been used for prior shows. It includes: 6 sets of chrome plated steel shelves (18x48x60); 4 pole lights; one fire extinguisher; two 50' extension cords; one 25' extension cord; two 3' multi-plug cords; one tent frame with hardware (8'x12'x8' cabin type); one white vinyl tarp ~10'x20'; two blue vinyl tarps ~ 8'x10'. Pictures of some of the equipment is shown below.

Signed bids should be submitted to Charlie Mitchell on or before the May 5th meeting. Submit your bid for EACH unit, e.g. if you want to bid on three sets of shelves then your bid is $xx for each one. The winning bids will be announced at the meeting on May 5th and a date for pick-up at the storage locker will be set. The Club is no longer going to lease the storage locker, so the equipment must be picked up shortly after the sale.
This must have been a hoax. Gene Webb, a wildlife carver and instructor, will NOT be donating a video to the club library as stated in the newsletter last month. The deal was to include his web site in your newsletter and get a video tape. However, his email address does not work, not even the one from his web site. So I cannot get hold of him to request the tape.
Plan on attending the O'Fallon Garden Expo and Festival of the Arts on May 1st in Civic Park in O'Fallon: food, children's games, original artwork, plants, lawn and garden services, and of course several tables of art by Club members. Come on out to the show even if you are not hosting a table.
Applications for the 15th Annual Carving Show were distributed to members at the last meeting and emailed to members on the roster. The show is scheduled on Sept 18th and 19th at the St. Peters Community and Art Center. The show is open to all woodcarvers and vendors. It is presented to provide a public learning experience, to encourage the further pursuit of our art form, and to provide the opportunity for fellowship with fellow woodworkers. Applications and additional information on the show may be obtained by contacting: Charles W. Sapp; 771 Meadow Cliff Drive; St. Charles, MO 63303 or calling 636-928-0149 or emailing Charlie at charles@thesapps.com. Pictures from last years show are on John Bouchillon's web site ,http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Runway/8268/wonderwood01/wonderwood.html.
Several members have completed their carvings for the friendship cane. Everyone that is participating is asked to bring at least one completed carving for the first friendship cane to the May 5th meeting. A drawing will be held among the participating members to see who wins the first and subsequent canes.
Jim Leifeld has rescheduled his humming bird seminar. It will be held at the O'Fallon Art Center on May 21, 22, and 23. The class will start Friday evening and end Sunday. Contact Jim for more information.
Dave Lincoln does not have a specific carving for his seminar. However, he has offered to help any club member carve faces for the friendship cane. Contact Dave for more information and help.
Tip of the Month
Do not woodburn on carvings after you have used super glue. The heat will cause the glue to release cyanide gas.
How many times have you read a carving book and said “I’ve know that tip for a long time?” Well here is your chance to share what you have learned with new (and old) club members. Send me your tip of the month to share. I will even give you credit for the tip.
Dues are Due
Its time to pay your dues for 2004; $10. Contact the Membership Chairman, Charles Sapp, or Treasurer Bob Craven. Club patches are available from Bob Craven for $5. Unpaid carvers will be carved from the roster.

When you have an item for show and tell, please get my attention before you leave (presuming that I remember to bring the camera). If you have a digital picture of your work, send it to me for publishing.
